- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★I came to Providence, RI for a conference and decided to stay for a few extra days. Per recommendation by a friend I went to the RI State House. Amazing experience. We did a guided tour by Anne, which lasted about 50 minutes. I learned so much in that time, and especially about the United States and how integral Rhode Island was in getting the Bill of Rights and all the freedoms we enjoy today in the US Constitution. - ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆I took a self-guided tour of the State House and grounds. The building is constructed mostly of a gorgeous white marble. I enjoyed sitting in the library and contemplating the ornate finishes. I also enjoyed viewing the murals within the main dome, the paintings of all the previous governors, and seeing all of the action going on within the building. I believe a rally was planned for that day, and there were also several booths set up with information for and about veterans and related services. The grounds were very nice and peaceful. I walked all the way around the building; spent some time sitting under the trees and birdwatching (benches would be a nice addition), and later watched a lady playing fetch with her dog on the expansive lawn.
